There are serious concerns about a hidden workforce of temporary migrants at risk of exploitation in regional Australia.
There are more than 7,000 workers who have disengaged from the Federal Government’s Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme and who are now working in the agriculture industry either unlawfully or on bridging visas.
There are growing calls for the scheme to be urgently reviewed as local community support groups get overwhelmed with calls for help from vulnerable migrants, some with newborn children, who have no safety net.
