Pope Leo calls for ‘wildpeace’ in first Christmas Day message

Pope Leo called for an end to all global conflicts during the “Urbi et Orbi” (to the city and the world) message and blessing on Christmas Day.

He quoted the Israeli poet Yehuda Amichai’s poem Wildpeace to describe a peace that can emerge like wildflowers, quite suddenly, after the exhaustion of conflict.

Earlier Leo decried conditions for Palestinians in Gaza in his Christmas sermon, in an unusually direct appeal during what is normally a solemn, spiritual service on the day Christians across the globe celebrate the birth of Jesus.
