The mystery of the giant meteorite that vanished

In 1916, a French army captain heard tell of a vast lump of iron out in the Sahara desert, known as the “iron of God”. A local guide took him to it via an overnight camel ride and the captain later provided evidence that, at first blush, seemed to show this iron was a vast meteorite, far bigger than any discovered before or since.

For more than 100 years, scientists have sought in vain to rediscover this unearthly treasure. Now two twins – one an engineer, the other an astrophysicist – have found new evidence that may solve the mystery.
