Somalis react to Trump’s sweeping attacks in Davos

US President Donald Trump’s sweeping attacks on Somalia during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland have ignited backlash across the Horn of Africa.

Speaking to global business and political elites, Trump disparaged Somalis as “low IQ” and dismissed Somalia as having “no government” — remarks Somali officials and diaspora communities are calling racist and ignorant.

Somalis in Mogadishu — the country’s capital — reacted to Trump’s comments, with one man referring to the president as “an international gangster”.

“He doesn’t care about the international norms, diplomatic norms. He do a lot of things that violates international law, said local resident Said Ahmed.
