A bushfire in Ellenbrook flared up twice over consecutive days, forcing firefighters to protect the same homes multiple times. Investigators believe a discarded cigarette butt, whipped up by strong winds, caused the blaze which destroyed hectares of bushland and damaged nine houses. Water bombers and ground crews successfully prevented complete property loss, though flames came within metres of residential properties built adjacent to bushland.
