The last remaining Australian women and children with links to the IS group have been sent back to a Syrian camp after attempting to repatriate themselves.
The group of 34 left al-Roj in the country’s northeast overnight – but a communications issue with Damascus forced their return to the camp. It’s one of the few regions still run by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces after a recent agreement to integrate with the Syrian government.
The Australian government says IT has not helped with the repatriation attempt and is now under pressure from a newly shaped Opposition to block them from returning.
