A proposed 140-metre ferry terminal at Matilda Bay in Crawley has sparked protests from hundreds of demonstrators who say it will destroy migrating bird habitat and disrupt a peaceful community reserve. The Sailability disabled sailing club, which has operated at the site for 26 years, warns it would be forced to close due to safety concerns from ferry traffic. Protesters are calling for the terminal to be relocated to the former Jojo’s cafe site in Nedlands, though the government argues the Matilda Bay location provides better access to the University of Western Australia campus.
