What is the most important number in the entirety of mathematics?
That might be a pretty silly question – out of infinite possibilities, how could you possibly choose? A big hitter like 2 or 10 may have a better claim at the crown than something plucked from random out in the far trillion trillions, but really that would still be pretty arbitrary. Nevertheless, Jacob Aron makes the claim that there is a most important number: zero.
