The then-Princess Elizabeth sent the letter, which featured several drawings, to Beatrice Stillman, the head housemaid at Windsor’s Royal Lodge, who joined the royal household in 1936.

The princess wrote to Beatrice, “I am sending you some primroses we picked, wild.”

“There are some pale pink ones as well as the yellow. It is very lovely here.”

She added, “I hope the birds are well, and the gold-fish haven’t died.”

The one-page note, which was written while Elizabeth was on a vacation in Cornwall when she was about 10, is expected to fetch more than AU$7,000 when it goes up for auction.
