The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade route through the city’s streets has been added to the National Heritage List.
The listing means the parade route can now be protected under national environment law, while also enabling access to more grants.
The first Sydney Mardi Gras took place on the evening of June 24, 1978, and was led by a group now known as the 78ers.
