One million people displaced in Lebanon as Israel launches ground offensive

Israel’s military has launched what it called a limited ground operation against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, as Beirut said more than one million people had been displaced in two weeks of fighting.

Israel’s defence minister warned that those displaced in Lebanon could not return home until northern Israel was secure.

Lebanon was drawn into the war in the Middle East when Tehran-backed Hezbollah attacked Israel in response to the killing of Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in joint US-Israeli strikes.
