While travel agent Kellie Woodward uses ChatGPT herself, she said that it can lead keen holidaymakers down the wrong path if they’re not careful.

In fact, a study conducted in 2024 found that 33% of people who used AI to plan their travels created itineraries with incorrect information.

The Tasmania Tours website commissioned a third party, who used AI, to create some of their marketing material.

The website ended up publishing information about a “tranquil haven… [for] anyone wanting to experience one of the more untouched hot springs Tasmania has to offer”—but the “popular destination” didn’t exist.

Kellie told Yahoo Lifestyle that “We’re finding a lot of new clients are coming to us because they have been caught out by [AI] in the past.”

She added that “AI doesn’t have that human touch to find out exactly what it is you want, or to be able to know how you want to feel on a particular holiday.”
