Endangered saker falcons return to Kazakhstan’s steppe in major international conservation effort

In the sweeping deserts of Kazakhstan’s vast ‘steppe’, endangered saker falcons are taking flight once more, thanks to a major international effort.

The Saudi–backed program aims to return these ancient hunting companions – long revered as symbols of nobility and freedom – to the wild in south-eastern Kazakhstan, where their survival is vital for both the region’s culture and ecosystem.
