US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been ridiculed for her wild take on billionaires and how they amassed their fortunes.
Cortez recently appeared on comedian Ilana Glazer’s ‘It’s Open’ podcast and argued the huge net worths credited to billionaires is a “myth”.
“You can’t earn a billion dollars; you just can’t earn that. You can get market power. You can break rules. You can do all sorts of things. You can abuse labour laws,” AOC said.
“You can pay people less than what they’re worth. But you can’t earn that, right? And so you have to create a myth… You have to create a myth of earning it.”
The ‘Squad’ member’s comments went viral on social media, with X users mocking Cortez as “naïve”.
