India on May 7 successfully tested TARA or the Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation system, an indigenous glide weapon kit developed by DRDO and the Indian Air Force. The system can convert conventional unguided bombs into precision-guided strike weapons, allowing fighter jets to hit targets more accurately from safer distances. Tested off the Odisha coast, TARA represents a major step in India’s push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing. The weapon comes at a time when India is highlighting lessons from Operation Sindoor, where indigenous systems like BrahMos, Akash, surveillance platforms and electronic warfare suites played a key role.
