The U.S. Air Force is reviving its ARRW hypersonic missile program with a new “Increment 2” version designed to strike moving warships at sea, signalling growing Pentagon focus on a potential Pacific conflict with China. According to reports, the upgraded missile will receive in-flight target updates and could become America’s first operational air-launched hypersonic weapon. The Pentagon has requested over $296 million for development in FY2027 after earlier tests faced setbacks in 2023. Carried by B-52 and B-1B bombers, the boost-glide missile is intended to target high-value Chinese assets, including warships, AWACS aircraft, tankers and mobile launchers.
