According to People, the annual festival established the dress code rules last year, and many of the guidelines still remain in place.
The official Cannes Film Festival website states that “evening wear is required” to attend Grand Théâtre Lumière gala screenings that take place around 7 and 10pm.
It goes on to say, “You may also wear a ‘little black dress’, a cocktail dress, a dark-coloured pantsuit, a dressy top with black pants, elegant shoes and sandals… [or] a black or navy-blue suit with bow-tie or dark-coloured tie.”
When it comes to the red carpet and all areas of the festival, “for decency reasons, nudity is prohibited”.
“Voluminous outfits” that “hinder the proper traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theatre” are also not permitted.
If anyone is caught “not respecting these rules”, the Festival’s welcoming teams are “obligated to prohibit Red Carpet access”.
