Endometriosis is usually thought of as a gynaecological condition, but a huge study into the biology of endometriosis has revealed new mechanisms by which it may cause its severe and wide-ranging effects on health, paving the way for improved treatments.
The work, which included data from more than a million women, is also the first to identify specific genes linked to endometriosis in people of African ancestry, a group that has historically been under-represented in research on the condition.
