News24 host James Macpherson questions Labor’s decision to spend $2 million on a national database of alleged anti-Indigenous hate.
“The Albanese Government has announced it will spend $2m helping to fund a national database that records hateful things said about Indigenous people,” Mr Macpherson said.
“Who decides what is and what is not hateful? Is it hateful to say the Aboriginal flag shouldn’t be flown on government buildings? Is it hateful to say that Welcome to Country ceremonies are insulting?
“Here’s an example that was featured prominently on the website as evidence of racism in this country. Everywhere I go, no matter where, if it’s around non-Indigenous people, I feel a hate vibe.
“I’m not joking. That comment was actually used as a banner on the website. Surely evidence of racism has to be based on more than a vibe.
“If the Government is going to spend $2m of our money collecting them, we’re entitled to ask what exactly it intends to do with the resulting database.”
