India is at the centre of a major ammunition controversy involving NATO member Estonia and an $81 million deal meant to supply artillery shells to Ukraine. The deal involved Datasel, an Italian-registered company acquired by India’s Neco Defence Munitions in 2024. Deliveries were delayed and Estonia later raised questions over ammunition quality. Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur has resigned, taking political responsibility for the fallout. Datasel disputes Estonia’s claims and has challenged the contract termination, with the dispute now in arbitration.
