Supporters of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva have poured into the streets after his election win and the defeat of rival Flávio Bolsonaro.
In São Paulo, the Guardian’s Latin America correspondent, Tom Phillips (@tomphillipsin), says crowds are preparing for a street party to celebrate Lula’s ‘historic election victory’.
Outside Bolsonaro’s Brasília mansion, the Guardian South America correspondent, Tiago Rogero, reports that the far-right senator has declared it ‘impossible to concede Lula’s victory’ and vowed to seek the election’s annulment.
