The pilot initially reported moderate turbulence and efforts to manage ice before issuing a desperate Mayday call. The aircraft’s descent rate reportedly surged from 10,000 to 22,000 feet per minute within seconds. In the final transmission, the pilot was heard saying, “We’re out of time.” Reuters verified the authenticity of the recording using archived air traffic control audio and flight information. The crash is under investigation.
