NATO is facing a growing funding shortfall as Ukraine struggles to secure the military assistance it needs ahead of another difficult winter. The alliance pledged €70 billion in military support for 2026, but a reported €7 billion gap threatens to undermine that commitment. NATO chief Mark Rutte has urged allies to step up deliveries, particularly of air defence systems, while Ukraine’s envoy is pressing member states to turn promises into concrete support. Unpaid deliveries under the PURL programme reportedly account for around $1.9 billion of the gap. With Russia continuing its aerial attacks, can NATO deliver the weapons and funding Kyiv urgently needs?
