Bolsonaro placed under house arrest as Trump’s 50% tariff looms for Brazil | The World | ABC NEWS

Brazil’s Supreme Court has issued a house arrest order for former President Jair Bolsonaro. The right-wing politician is standing trial for allegedly trying to overturn his 2022 election loss. In its reasoning for the decision the court said Mr Bolsonaro did not comply with judicial restraining orders imposed on him last month, which stipulated a ban on his use of social media. US President Trump has labelled the case a ‘witch hunt’ and slapped Brazil with 50 per cent tariffs on some goods, due to come into effect on Wednesday. Associated Press reporter Mauricio Savarese joined The World from Sao Paulo.
