Israel’s takeover of Gaza City is now underway, with the first stages of its operation already unfolding, according to the Israeli military.
The United Nations secretary general has joined international condemnation of the plan, warning it will “inevitably” cause “massive death and destruction”.
The operation also involves the call-up of around 60,000 Israeli reservists.
