Speaking on Tuesday night, he said he had warned both countries of imposing tariffs so high that their “heads would spin.” This is not the first time Trump has taken credit for brokering peace between India and Pakistan ā though New Delhi has never acknowledged his claims. Trumpās latest remarks come as 50% tariffs on Indian goods take effect. He has accused India of indirectly funding the Russia-Ukraine war by buying Russian oil. Ironically, reports suggest the US itself is exploring energy deals with Moscow. Officials from Washington and Moscow have reportedly met at least twice to discuss the matter.
