Portugal in mourning after Lisbon funicular railway crash

Portugal is observing a national day of mourning after at least 15 people were killed and 18 injured when a funicular cable railway derailed and hit a building in Lisbon.

The 140-year-old Gloria Funicular streetcar is one of the city’s biggest tourist attractions. The railway, which opened in the 19th century, connects Lisbon’s downtown with the upper quarter, famous for its vibrant nightlife.
