15-year-old blinded near Gaza aid site one of thousands WHO says is waiting for urgent medical care

The World Health Organization says there are nearly 16,000 critical patients in Gaza who need urgent specialised medical care that they cannot receive there.

While several countries are accepting medical evacuations from Gaza, the US has stopped medical visas.

Many who are sick and injured often wait months to be approved to leave – which, in some cases, is too late.

Israel does not allow independent foreign media into Gaza, but SBS contributor and camera operator Rakan Abed El Rahman spoke with one Palestinian boy shot near an aid distribution site, who is seeking permission to leave Gaza for treatment.
