United Nations speech | Arms race warning | Typhoon forces mass evacuations

In an address to the United Nations, prime minister Anthony Albanese relaunched a bid for a seat on the Security Council, one started by the Turnbull government.

Mr Albanese also used his platform, to appeal for the UN to overhaul its operations, to combat the rise of authoritarianism and dictatorships.

Several world leaders had their turn to address the General Assembly today.
Among them – Ahmed al-Sharaa – the first leader from Syria in almost 60 years.
