Top US Democrats have criticised President Donald Trump’s privately-funded AU$458 White House ballroom renovation as the administration stops payments for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits, or food stamps, for 42-million low-income Americans amid the ongoing government shutdown.
“Are you f—ing kidding me?” said former US Vice President Kamala Harris in a podcast released on Thursday.
“This guy [Donald Trump] wants to create a ballroom for his rich friends, while completely turning a blind eye to the fact that babies are going to starve when the SNAP benefits end in just hours from now.”
Meanwhile, former US President Barack Obama also criticised the ballroom project during a rally for Virginia’s Democratic candidate for governor.
