Locals from tiny Indonesian island challenge a cement industry giant

Dozens of Indigenous leaders and activists have docked in Belem to attend the COP30 climate summit due to open later tonight in the Amazonian city.

They say they want a greater say in how their territories are managed as the effects of climate change and industries such as mining, drilling and logging are felt increasingly worldwide.

This year there’s been a push to hold the largest carbon emitters accountable in court.

On a tiny island in Indonesia, four locals are now leading the latest legal challenge.

International Correspondent Claudia Farhart travelled to Pari Island, where the community is taking on a giant of the cement industry.
