Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has been praised by his US counterpart Donald Trump after the pair met at the White House.
It’s the first such visit by a Syrian President to the US in almost 80 years, with the fighter-turned-ruler successfully lobbying the Trump administration to suspend crippling sanctions to help Syria rebuild after years of civil war.
