Calls to end native forest logging for one of the world’s worst offenders

A tropical forest fund is shaping up to be the flagship project from the COP30 summit in Brazil touted as a ‘once-in-a-generation’ initiative for forest conservation.

But it doesn’t extend to native hard and softwood forests where Australia remains among the world’s worst for deforestation risking the country’s climate goals.

Zero point Zero five per cent of native forest is currently logged, according to federal government figures.
