PBS to cover rare blood cancer treatment

Treatment for a rare but deadly blood cancer will now be covered by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

Darzalex will be added as frontline therapy for Myeloma patients who can’t undergo stem cell treatment.

Without the subsidy, patients would pay more than $150k for the first year of Darzalex, and then $85k annually thereafter.

Eligible patients are now able to pay $31.60 a month for the drug.
