The Tasmanian government has abruptly shut down rock lobster fisheries, days after a powerful new antibiotic was approved in nearby salmon farms.
The antibiotic, Florfenicol, was only approved for use several weeks ago, with its aim to treat salmon with disease.
Director of Public Health Dr Mark Veitch says there is “no evidence of harm” for humans if they consume traces of Florfenicol.
