England were in a strong position at 1/65 before collapsing to 164 all out in the afternoon session.
Head’s masterful innings took the game away from England’s bowlers, giving the home side a 1-0 series lead.
The teams next head to Brisbane for a day-night Test at the Gabba, beginning on December 4.
