100,000 year old ancient organism discovered 🦠

Researchers visited the Chukchi peninsula at the easternmost edge of Siberia, where they drilled into the permafrost to sample a bit of sediment that froze between 100,000 and 120,000 years ago.

This lifeform doesn’t appear to have just remained dormant – but instead has actually been growing extremely slowly. This finding adds to the idea that life itself is a fuzzy state of being.
