US Political Analyst Aidan Smith states the US government shutdown will cause “42 million” people to lose SNAP food assistance.
Mr Smith told Sky News Australia, families with children make up “two-thirds” of those Americans.
“It’s something that has a really direct material impact.
“If there’s not an immediate resolution, it could easily spin pretty out of control for the GOP going into the 2026 midterms.”
