Etiquette debate erupts over Aussie cafe’s sign targeting ‘ladies’ | #yahooaustralia

The deli near Perth erected a sign that banned “ladies… “wearing G-string bikinis” from entering the store.

Although Aussie etiquette coach Kate Heussler told Yahoo Lifestyle that “in cafes, delis and shops, a [swimsuit] cover-up is standard courtesy – for comfort, hygiene perception and a family-friendly environment”, many online argued that the deli’s new policy was unfairly targeting women.

Even Channel 10’s newsreader Narelda Jacobs posted a photo of the sign on social media with the caption that “shirtless men appeared quite welcome”.

But Kate said that “comparing a shirtless man to a woman’s uncovered bottom” is a “classic false equivalence”.

She added that “The mistake wasn’t the venue having this rule; it was making the rule feel personal to one gender.”

“Address behaviour, not a demographic.”

What do you think?
