The deli near Perth erected a sign that banned âladies… âwearing G-string bikinisâ from entering the store.
Although Aussie etiquette coach Kate Heussler told Yahoo Lifestyle that âin cafes, delis and shops, a [swimsuit] cover-up is standard courtesy – for comfort, hygiene perception and a family-friendly environmentâ, many online argued that the deliâs new policy was unfairly targeting women.
Even Channel 10âs newsreader Narelda Jacobs posted a photo of the sign on social media with the caption that âshirtless men appeared quite welcomeâ.
But Kate said that âcomparing a shirtless man to a womanâs uncovered bottomâ is a âclassic false equivalenceâ.
She added that âThe mistake wasnât the venue having this rule; it was making the rule feel personal to one gender.â
âAddress behaviour, not a demographic.â
