In her new book, royal biographer Ingrid Seward writes that “The full implication of what it would mean to be Prince Charle’s wife frightened Camilla, and she was strident in her refusal to be sucked into the vortex of royal life.”
Ingrid said that even though Camilla “persuaded Charles it would not be a good idea to consider marriage… Charles wanted to marry Camilla – and wanted her to find a place within royal life.”
“If it hadn’t been for the fickleness of public opinion and the restraining hand of his advisors, Charles would have gone public with Camilla a good deal earlier.”
Charles and Camilla eventually married in April 2005 – almost nine years after Charles and Diana’s divorce was finalised and nearly eight years after Diana’s death.
