Dermatologist Dr Emma Hiscutt told Yahoo Lifestyle that âover-washingâ is common in Australia, and that people often âlaughâ when she tells them that theyâre âtoo cleanâ.
âAs you get older, your skin gets thinner, and it gets drier, generally, because you produce less oil.â
Dr Hiscutt explained, âIf you find that you always need moisturiser after a shower, if your skin flakes, and feels tight or burning, then itâs on the drier scale, and you need to wash less often.â
âI think generally for over 65-year-olds, I would suggest pushing showering out to every other day.â
âIf they have extremely dry, flaky skin… then once a week would be fine.â
But she stressed that âIf you find that, at the end of the day, your skin is not dry, itâs oily⌠then definitely showering every day is still worth doing.â
