Giselle told Yahoo Lifestyle, “It was like that from the moment we boarded, but got progressively foggier to the point where we couldn’t see much.”
She added, “To give the crew due credit, they made several announcements to reassure people that it was just the air conditioning system… We just had to wait until take off, where it dissipated surprisingly quickly.”
Thankfully, the scenes didn’t erupt because of a plane fault, and it’s actually a fairly common sight.
When an aircraft is flying, it travels through varying temperatures. If the temperature goes from cold damp air to warmer, drier air, moisture can form. It’s the same as if the temperature outside the plane is vastly different to the inside before it leaves the tarmac.
When the air conditioning is switched on upon landing or before take off, passengers will often see a fogging effect for the first couple of minutes until the moisture dissipates.
It’s typically nothing to worry about and never sticks around long to cause any problems.
