US platform Not a Wedding Crasher was set up to help couples fill empty seats left by last-minute drop-outs or to adhere to a venueâs minimum guest rules.
Texas bride Gabriel, who used the site to have four strangers at her and her husbandâs big day, told Yahoo Lifestyle that âIt was amazing having them there. They had such a great vibe.â
After being vetted by the site, the so-called wedding crashers will sent requests to the couples outlining why they want to come along and if theyâre approved theyâll then have to pay a fee to attend, which tends to range from 25 to 85 US dollars.
The platformâs founders Jeff and Karina Besen told Yahoo Lifestyle that the idea came to them when they realised, âWe hadnât been to a wedding in a very long time, and you canât just get invited to a wedding unless you know somebody, [so] a few light bulbs went off.â
Jeff added, âIn a lot of cases, the guests have become friends after the wedding, which is pretty amazing.â
Jeff said that heâs now hoping to launch an Australian-based platform in the coming months.
