Charles made it clear that since Harry and Meghan are still not working members of the British royal family, they remain âprivate citizensâ.
According to the BBC, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex claimed that the couple were âa little surprised not to have been told about [the announcement] in advanceâ, with insider sources telling PEOPLE that Harry and Meghanâs team was informed about the letter just an hour before it was sent out.
King Charlesâ letter stressed that the Sussexâs position, âdistinct from the State and Royal duties undertaken by the working Royal Family⌠will continue to be fully respected.â
âAll correspondence and administrative questions relating to the couple should be sent to their office, which will continue to operate separately from The Royal Household.â
