Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has criticised Federal MP Bob Katter’s reaction to being asked about his heritage, saying Katter should “have a look at himself, frankly, and recognise that that’s just not what we expect of any Australian…”
Katter threatened to punch Nine Network journalist Josh Bavas who had asked him about his Lebanese heritage on Thursday.
The Queensland MP had been expressing his support for Sunday’s controversial anti-immigration March for Australia rallies at a press conference when he suddenly became heated.
Bavas later said he was trying to ask about the value migrant Australian families “including the Katters and my own” bring to the nation before he was cut off.
Nine Network has stood by Bavas, demanding Katter apologise for his “unacceptable” behaviour.
Health Minister Mark Butler also rebuked Katter’s actions, saying the “physical approach” is “just unacceptable in this day and age”.
