In the second film, Ariana Grande steps fully into the role of ‘Glinda the Good’.
According to director Jon M. Chu, “She is now with the bubble and with the wand, and everyone believes in her and is looking to her… It’s everything she ever wanted, and she couldn’t be happier – yet something deep inside of her is not settled.”
Chu explained that the sequel will peel back the layers of Glinda’s perfect image, telling Empire, “We get to know a little bit more about Glinda, what her wound is and what made her this way, and we get to see the choices that she has to make. Sometimes it takes just as much courage to pop your bubbles – that you don’t actually have to ever pop – to become the person that you need to become.”
Glinda will have a new original song in the upcoming film, with Ariana Grande revealing “It shows a side of her we’ve never seen before. In the stage show, the transformation happens offstage. But in the movie, we get to see her make the decision that defines who she is.”
