According to PEOPLE, the three children of the Prince and Princess of Wales are known to their teachers and school friends as George Wales, Charlotte Wales, and Louis Wales.
Although they each formally received their prince or princess titles at birth, going by the surname of Wales makes it easier for the young royals to blend in with their peers.
When their parents were known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge before King Charles ascended the throne though, the children used Cambridge as their informal last name.
While the British royal family had previously used their dynastic title—Windsor—as their last name, it’s now become customary for royal children to adopt their parents’ titles when they need a surname.
