Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has urged members of the UN to hold “any nation” to account that imagines itself “outside the rules or above them”, during an address on Wednesday.
The statement followed the PM’s criticism of Russia, stating that Australia continues to stand with Ukraine in their struggle against the “illegal and immoral invasion”.
Albanese also thanked the members of the UN General Assembly who endorsed a declaration that aims to protect humanitarian personnel in conflict, and reiterated calls for a ceasefire and hostage release in Gaza.
Ukraine and Palestine are two of more than 100 members to sign the Declaration for the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel. The United States, Israel, and the Russian Federation are not listed as signatories.
