A Chinese fighter jet released flares close to an Australian surveillance plane over the South China Sea on Sunday.
China claimed the RAAF aircraft entered its airspace “illegally”, but Australia’s defence minister, Pat Conroy, said that is “factually incorrect” and that the plane was in international waters.
This is at least the third such incident in the past 18 months.
